The Nigerian government has denied allegations of human rights abuse made by the Trade Union Congress in the United Kingdom, instead they are accusing the NLC President  Joe Ajaero of behaving as if he is above the law.

The UK TUC leader's had claims that  based on the detention of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, who was stopped from traveling abroad after ignoring a law enforcement agency's invitation.

The government emphasized that no one is above the law in Nigeria and that Ajaero's actions have consequences. It cited examples of high-profile individuals in the US, including former President Donald Trump and President Biden's son, being subject to lawful investigations.

The government rejected the notion of human rights violations and stated that the accusations were unfounded and based on a misunderstanding. It highlighted President Tinubu's commitment to protecting civil liberties and the rights of all citizens.

The government clarified that the Department of State Services' invitation to Ajaero was not related to his role as NLC President, but rather a matter of law enforcement. It urged Ajaero to honor the invitation and resolve any issues during the investigation.

The government also noted that the labour movement's ideological positions often contradict economic realities and have hindered Nigeria's economic growth. It cited the example of the NLC's opposition to the sale of refineries, which ultimately led to none of the government-owned refineries functioning.
