The 6th edition of the Unity Cup, organized by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Coaches, kicked off in grand style on Tuesday, featuring three action-packed matches at the Area 3 playing pitch.

 

Defending champions Gwarimpa United were dealt a shocking blow in the tournament’s opening game, suffering a 5-3 defeat to Jubril FC in a high-scoring encounter that set the tone for the competition.

 

In the day’s second fixture, Fine Trust FC edged past Super Stars with a narrow 1-0 win, while Youthful Ballers also secured a lone-goal victory in the third and final match of the day.

 

The tournament’s opening ceremony was graced by Chief Bob Oluwole, a Board Member of the AMAC Football Council, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. In his address, he commended the organizers and encouraged the teams to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and adhere strictly to the laws of the game.

 

“I wish all teams a hitch-free tournament. Let’s play with respect and integrity,” he said.

 

The Unity Cup, a key grassroots football event in the Federal Capital Territory, continues on Wednesday with more matches expected to showcase budding talent and community spirit.
