President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his deep concern over the inhumane treatment suffered by Nigeria’s Super Eagles at a Libyan airport and welcomed their safe return to the country.

In a statement released by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was revealed that the national football team’s distressing experience at the hands of Libyan authorities led the Nigerian Football Federation to withdraw the Super Eagles from their scheduled match on Tuesday.

The President called for the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to conduct a thorough investigation and recommend appropriate actions against those who violated the organization’s Statutes and Regulations.

He commended the effective coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, which played a crucial role in ensuring the players’ safe return.

President Tinubu praised the players for maintaining their spirit despite the harrowing ordeal they faced in Libya. He emphasized football’s unifying power to bring nations together and condemned the treatment of the Nigerian team as unsportsmanlike and inhumane—an unfortunate departure from the spirit of the game he values.

He urged all football enthusiasts and administrators to unite in preventing similar incidents in the future, promoting collaboration and resilience in the face of challenges.
