The Chairman House Committee on Sports, Honourable Ekene Adams says Nigerians will not write-off athletes that would be representing the country despite unsatisfactory preparations ahead of the 2024 Olympics games.

He made this assertion while reacting to the claim by President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee NOC, Habu Ahmed Gumel, that a period of four years is needed to prepare an athlete for a gold medal in the Olympics.

The NOC honoured the invitation by the House Committee on Sports to deliberate and ask questions on the nation's preparedness for the forthcoming Olympics in France on Thursday.

Dismissing fears that athletes have not met the required preparation level, the lawmaker said the Nigerian spirit is enough to spur athletes to succeed.

The astute football administrator insisted that Nigerians have a "never-say-die" spirit and that is enough to add with the level of preparation so far.

"Its not going to be business as usual. The athletes will do well. Let's expect positive results.

"We should motivate the athletes and ask them to make the country proud" he said.

While assuring of his support and that of his committee, Hon. Adams called on Nigerians to motivate athletes that would be representing the country at the Paris Olympics later this year.
