The Health Minister has emphasized the need for increased awareness campaigns to ensure the complete eradication of polio, highlighting the role of partnerships like the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation.

This message was delivered by Professor Ali Pate during a symbolic immunization event organized by the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) to commemorate World Polio Day in Abuja.

Professor Pate called for ongoing educational efforts to prevent any resurgence of polio variants in Nigeria, commending the significant contributions of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation in the fight against polio. He expressed gratitude for Sir Emeka Offor’s dedication, stating, “Sir Emeka Offor has been instrumental in our efforts to eradicate polio. I am pleased with his commitment and hope it continues. The joy on the faces of women and their children here is a testament to our progress.”

Dr. Emeka Offor, founder of SEOF and Rotary International’s polio ambassador for Nigeria, reaffirmed his foundation’s commitment to enhancing the health of Nigerians. He noted that the battle against polio is not over, as the virus remains a threat both locally and globally. “Despite the resources we’ve invested, the job is not finished. With countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan still grappling with the disease, we must renew our commitment and adopt innovative strategies,” he stressed.

Mike Ukachi, the pioneer district governor of Rotary International Nigeria, highlighted his team’s proactive efforts to provide polio vaccines across the nation. “We will not rest until every child is vaccinated. Our commitment to eradicating polio in Nigeria is unwavering,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from Barr. Adaora Offor, who urged attendees to broaden their outreach efforts, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive approach in combating polio.

Chief Adetokunbo Kayode, a former Minister of Tourism, Culture, and National Orientation, called on the federal government to mandate polio vaccinations for all Nigerian children. “Eliminating polio is crucial in the fight against poverty. We must enforce mandatory vaccinations and consider sanctions for non-compliance,” he stated. He also acknowledged Sir Emeka Offor’s significant financial contributions toward polio eradication in Nigeria.

The occasion culminated in the symbolic immunization of children, conducted by Sir Dr. Emeka Offor and Dr. Mrs. Offor, alongside other key stakeholders, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing battle against polio in Nigeria.
