Individuals view virginity from different perspectives, but there are general facts about this state that both the male and female genders should be aware of, which leads us to five (5) important things you should know before you decide to engage in intimacy for the first time and subsequently.

According to healthline, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or STDs like herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), chlamydia, and the human papillomavirus (HPV) could be transmitted from an infected partner to a healthy individual during intimacy. This is why health experts advise that using protection and staying true to a medically tested partner reduces the chances of contracting any of the above-listed diseases.

Secondly, pregnancy could result when a male engages in intimacy with a female partner (especially when she is ovulating). If you wish to engage in intimacy for the first time but don't wish to get pregnant, health experts always advise that one or both partners use protection so that the male reproductive fluid may not find its way into the female reproductive tract.

Thirdly, the popping of the hymen (a thin elastic tissue formed from pieces of tissues left over from foetal development and deposited around the opening of the female genitalia) is not an indicator that you are a fresher when it comes to intimacy, as some people are not born with any.

Fourthly, there will be temporal physiological changes like increased breathing and heart rate, increased blood flow to the spongy-elastic tissues in the male organ, and the swelling of the vulva in the female genitalia. These changes in the bodies of both partners would return to normal once the excitement ceases, which means that you won't have an obvious change in your body showing that you have engaged in intimacy for the first time.

Lastly, copulating with your partner for the first time is a healthy natural activity, and this cancels the belief held by many people that the souls of both partners have been tied forever to each other afterward.
