Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has firmly denied widespread rumours suggesting he is planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday after the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee of the PDP’s upcoming 2025 Elective National Convention, Governor Adeleke, who chairs the sub-committee and serves as Deputy Chairman of the Convention, dismissed the rumours as baseless and misleading.

 

“Some people say I might be planning to join the APC because I have friends there or have been seen attending their events. I’m a very civilised person. If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them,” he clarified.

 

Adeleke emphasized that his participation in social functions involving members of other political parties should not be misconstrued as political alignment. He reaffirmed that he remains fully committed to the PDP, especially in the build-up to the party’s national convention scheduled for October 15–16, 2025.

 

“As we speak, I’m the Deputy Chairman of the Convention Committee. I’m a loyal PDP member. We believe in proper organisation, doing things right, and upholding the rule of law,” he said.

 

On the convention preparations, Adeleke expressed confidence in its success, noting that all logistics and planning by the sub-committee are progressing smoothly.

 

“We just finished our inaugural meeting, and we’ve resolved everything necessary to ensure the convention runs successfully. By God’s grace, it will be a great success,” he added.

 

Addressing reports of internal rifts and defections within the PDP, the governor urged calm and unity, stating that the party is resolving its issues internally and remains strong despite political movements.

 

“It is a family affair. We don’t want anyone outside to add sugar, pepper, or salt to the matter. We know how to manage our affairs,” he said.

 

He further noted that while some politicians may choose to leave the party, such decisions do not threaten the PDP’s strength or relevance.

 

“Anybody, whether a governor or a minister, has the right to make their own decision. That does not change anything in the PDP. We still have strong membership and support across Nigeria,” Adeleke said.

 

He concluded by reaffirming that the party’s focus remains on unity, organisation, and successful convention outcomes.

 

“By God’s grace, our convention will be a great success, and the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
