Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people, assuring citizens that his administration remains focused on restoring the vision of a “New Benue” and delivering meaningful development across the state.

 

The governor emphasized that his pledge to transform the state is rooted in the oath of office he swore before assuming leadership. According to him, the responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Benue remains sacred and continues to guide his actions in government.

 

Governor Alia noted that the year 2026 began on a deeply spiritual note, as both Christians and Muslims observed fasting periods almost simultaneously. He described the development as a significant divine moment that called for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to faith and unity among the people.

 

Drawing inspiration from biblical teachings, the governor said the traditional forty-day fasting period reflects the example of Christ and encourages believers to embrace forgiveness, humility, obedience to God, and love for one another. According to him, such spiritual discipline offers an opportunity for individuals and communities to seek divine guidance after making resolutions at the beginning of the year.

 

Governor Alia, who is also a Catholic priest, reminded the people that beyond his political role, his pastoral background continues to shape his values and approach to leadership. He said that even while serving in public office, the principles he preached at the altar—love, truth, forgiveness, kindness, and unity—remain central to his conduct in governance.

 

Referencing biblical figures such as Abraham, whom he described as a symbol of patience and obedience to God, the governor urged citizens to remain steadfast in faith and trust that their prayers regarding security challenges in the state will be answered.

 

Despite the enormous demands of governance, Governor Alia assured the people that the welfare of Benue citizens remains his highest priority. He described his position as a privilege granted by the people and stressed that no level of fame or political influence would disconnect him from the communities that elected him.

 

He expressed gratitude to both indigenes and non-indigenes of the state for the overwhelming support that facilitated his emergence as governor. According to him, that trust places a moral obligation on his administration to provide essential amenities, improve living conditions, and create opportunities for citizens, particularly the youth, through education and digital innovation.

 

The governor also appealed to the people to be patient and understanding, noting that the responsibilities of governance often require his presence at both state and federal engagements. He encouraged citizens who wish to reach him to channel their concerns through commissioners and government officials for prompt attention.

 

Governor Alia further directed permanent secretaries and senior civil servants to address the needs of citizens within their respective ministries without bias. He commended civil servants for their contributions to the development of the state and urged young people to use the internet productively to enhance their careers and generate ideas that could support community development.

 

Addressing the ongoing security challenges in parts of the state, the governor acknowledged the pain of families who have lost loved ones to attacks. He urged communities to continue praying for the departed while embracing unity and cooperation in protecting their environment.

 

He encouraged citizens to explore technological and digital tools that could assist in developing long-term strategies to safeguard communities. According to him, love, vigilance, and collaboration among residents can strengthen local protection mechanisms, particularly when information from whistleblowers is promptly shared.

 

Many residents and community leaders have expressed support for the governor, stating that the security challenges confronting the state did not originate from his administration. They noted that his strong voice in condemning attacks, particularly during the tragic killings in Yelwata, helped draw national and international attention to the crisis.

 

Youth groups and intellectuals in the state have also advocated stronger collaboration with both serving and retired military personnel to develop strategic security frameworks capable of confronting armed bandits and other attackers threatening communities.

 

While reaffirming their support for Governor Alia, many supporters urged continued dialogue, community intelligence systems, and early-warning networks to help combat insecurity.

 

They also emphasized that leadership must be measured by solutions and collective action, noting that protecting the reputation of Benue as the “Food Basket of the Nation” requires peace, stability, and sustained development across the state.
