The Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL) George Aluo says all is set to have a record-breaking Super 8 in Enugu.

The much anticipated Super 8 kicks off in Enugu on June 7 with Nasarawa United playing Elkanemi Warriors in the opening game.

The successful 2023/2024 season will be capped with a Super 8 competition where leaders and runner-ups from the four conferences would have a titan clash to produce four teams for promotion to the top-tire league, NPFL, and an overall winner for the season.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday,  the veteran media guru disclosed that the winner of the competition would win a 5 million cash prize,  the first of its kind in the league's history.

In his words, "We are set for the Super 8, everything has been put in place, and all the teams have been told what to do. We are going to watch a very exciting Super 8 in Enugu.

"It would be streamed live, courtesy of Radio Nigeria. We are trying to see if we can equally be on television.

"ProStars are the manufacturers of the official ball for the NNL Super 8. This ball has been approved by FIFA. They are going to provide the best keeper, MVP, the highest glGoalscorer, and the best referee with an award."

Aluo, therefore, expressed satisfaction with the 2023/2024 season, noting that the officiating has greatly improved as a good number of away wins were recorded.

"For the few referees who did not meet up with the expectations, we did not hesitate to show them the exit door. In fact, in a particular week, 7 referees were asked to leave. But we want to commend those who were up and doing. If they were not up and doing, in 356 games, we wouldn't be talking about 107 away wins and 88 draws. That is a very good one for NNL, and  we are really happy.

"764 goals were scored, which is  more than an average of 2 goals per game. So you can see the referees kept the games open. For us, this is a very impressive statistics, and moving forward,  it can only get better."
