The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has expressed deep gratitude to the people of Benue State for unanimously electing him into office and for standing by him through difficult moments, particularly during what he described as periods of intense emotional and political challenges last year.

Governor Alia also extended his appreciation to Nigerians across the country who offered support, counsel, and encouragement when his concerns attracted the attention of relevant stakeholders. He noted that such solidarity strengthened his resolve to continue serving with sincerity and courage.

Reiterating the uniqueness of his political journey, the governor described his transition from the altar to grassroots politics as a calling similar to his charismatic ministry. Citing scripture, he emphasized that without God as the foundation, human efforts are bound to fail. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the sacred oaths he took as a Catholic priest, stressing the importance of sacramental secrecy and urging clergy members to protect the integrity of the faith and the trust between priests and confessors.

Governor Alia disclosed that his cabinet includes clergy-minded advisers who help balance spirituality with responsible governance, ensuring that his administration remains focused on its core mandate of rebuilding and repositioning Benue State. While acknowledging his role as a politician, he said he remains mindful of his oath of allegiance and the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church.

As the state prepares for 2026, the governor offered an apology to individuals and groups who may feel disappointed by his leadership in any way. He appealed for patience, assuring citizens that, by God’s grace, his administration will continue to reach neglected areas, complete ongoing projects, and commission finished ones that will drive development across the state.

Reflecting on his priestly identity, Governor Alia reminded Christians that priests are called “fathers” because they serve as support systems for individuals and families, a role reflected in the popular “Yes Father” slogan associated with him. He welcomed constructive opinions and credible information from the media and the public, especially as the country approaches another campaign season.

While intensifying political engagements to fulfill his campaign promises, the governor appealed to citizens of all faiths to support his administration with prayers rather than seeking appointments that could undermine the unity and efforts of the clergy. He urged the public to redirect energy from character defamation toward actions that will positively transform their lives and the state.

Governor Alia also announced that his administration has opened channels for whistleblowing to ensure rapid response to urgent issues, calling on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

Known for his reformist mindset and digital-driven ideas even before assuming office, the governor stressed that modern politics should be rooted in transparency, technology, and sincere service delivery. He said governance should no longer be a platform for exploitation, but a means to amplify the voices of the people, secure their entitlements, and nurture young leaders for future representation.

Commending civil servants for their resilience, Governor Alia acknowledged their appreciation of his efforts to clear salary backlogs and ensure improved welfare and security, which contributed to a peaceful festive season. He urged them to begin the new year with renewed dedication to duty.

“An insult to the governor is an insult to all, and his success is our collective success,” he said, adding that with unity, prayer, and cooperation, Benue State will achieve its vision of a digitally driven and prosperous future. He concluded by reminding citizens to remain their “brother’s keeper,” stressing that collective vigilance and responsibility are key to sustainable peace and development.
