Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Ewhrudjakpo, Rewards Bayelsa Utd Players With N3m After 'Shock' Win At Rivers Utd

Players of Bayelsa Utd had cause to smile after their shock away win at Rivers Utd in a Match Day 11 clash at Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, Omagwa, near Port Harcourt, at the weekend, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

This follows the motivational gesture of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who graciously doled out the sum of N3, 000, 000. 00 to the players in a rare appreciation of their feat in the 'South South Derby', representing N2.5m for the win and N500, 000.00 for the lone goal scored.

The Deputy Governor had made an all season  pledge to reward the team to the tune of N2.5m for a win and N500, 000.00 for every goal scored while on away duty, bringing the total sum to N3m.

Exclusivenews.com.ng checks reveal that the players shared their largesse on Tuesday, 12th November, 2024.

It was further scooped that the money was outside of the players reviewed match winning bonus for the 2024/2025 season. Under the reviews welfare package, the players were understood to earn N50, 000.00 for every single game won on away ground while an away draw fetches the players N35, 000.00.

This season, Bayelsa Utd have won twice on home ground--a 1-0 win against Plateau Utd and also 1-0 against Heartland--before last weekend's win away to Rivers Utd.

Exclusivenews.com.ng further scooped that the Deputy Governor's largesse was a 'specific' promise by the state's No.2 Citizen to reward the team with N2.5m from his personal pocket for every win, irrespective of whether at home or away and another N500, 000.00 for any goal scored, bringing the total sum to N3m.

"And he has instantly redeemed that once the team win", an official of the club confirmed.

Bayelsa Utd are now 14th on the table with 13 points following the win at Rivers Utd and will welcome Katsina Utd in a Match Day 12 fixture at their Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa Staye capital.
