Nigerian champions Bayelsa Queens made a strong start to their WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ghana Police Ladies at the CKB Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

 

The Prosperity Girls raced into a 2-0 lead in the keenly contested tie, showcasing their attacking intent and early dominance. However, the Ghanaians responded with a goal to reduce the deficit, setting up a nervy finish.

 

Despite the late pressure from the Police Ladies, Bayelsa Queens held firm to secure all three points and begin their campaign on a winning note.

 

The victory gives the Nigerian side a vital advantage in the group stage as they aim for a return to the CAF Women’s Champions League proper, where they finished third in 2022.

 

Bayelsa Queens will return to action on Wednesday for their second group match, as they look to build on their promising start.
