 Governor Umo Eno has addressed media speculation regarding his daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, taking on the role of First Lady of Akwa Ibom State following the death of his wife, Patience Umo Eno. The governor clarified that while Mrs. Umo Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, the decision for his daughter to coordinate the Office of the First Lady stems from a natural progression rather than political motives.

During a service at the All Nations Christian Ministry Intl, Eno emphasized that Mrs. Obareki, who served as a Special Assistant to her late mother, is well-suited to lead the office, stating, “First Ladies are not appointed; they come with the governor.” He highlighted that the arrangement would facilitate healing for the family and ensure continuity of his wife’s initiatives.

The governor stressed that Mrs. Obareki’s experience and close ties to her mother make her an ideal coordinator for ongoing programs, including the “Golden Initiative For All,” which supports women, the elderly, and vulnerable populations. He expressed his hope for support and wisdom for his daughter in her new role.

“By appointment, she is a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady. This is not political; it is natural,” Eno reiterated. He added that maintaining the programs his wife championed is vital, and having someone familiar with the office is crucial for its success.

Governor Eno also expressed gratitude to Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, for her condolence visit, acknowledging her recognition of Mrs. Obareki’s role as fitting. He encouraged the community to find solace in faith during this challenging time.
