Aisha Idris, the Chief Executive Officer of Mimie’s Couture—a fashion design and manufacturing company specializing in custom-made clothing—has reiterated the critical role women play in nation-building. Idris, who also serves as a legislative aide to the Kogi State government, made these remarks during a recently concluded empowerment and training program in Zamfara State.

The event, organized by Mimie’s Couture, featured a two-week training workshop and empowerment seminar for 50 women in the state. The program aimed to equip participants with tailoring skills and provide them with the financial assistance needed to start small businesses. Each participant was given basic guidance on acquiring sewing machines, enabling them to begin sewing for family members before gradually expanding their services to others.
Speaking about the motivation behind the program, Aisha Idris said:

“I believe women have the potential to contribute significantly to their families’ well-being. Men just need to have more faith in them. However, we live in a society where many still believe a woman’s role is confined to the house or kitchen. Changing that mindset remains a major challenge. With the rising cost of living and growing inflation, many men are realizing they can’t shoulder the burden alone. Unfortunately, not all women possess the skills to support their families, and that’s a serious problem.”

She added, “Our initiative is a step toward bridging that gap. With a little help, we can empower women to embrace opportunities that could transform their lives, their families’ fortunes, and even their communities. Empowering women goes beyond individual success—it’s a catalyst for societal development.”

Idris further highlighted the need for follow-up and continued support:
“We plan to return and follow up on the progress made by the participants. This will help us assess the impact of our intervention and identify areas where additional support is needed. With more resources and partnerships, we hope to reach even more women and young girls in the future.”

The two-week training program not only equipped women with life-changing skills but also shed light on the challenges they face in gaining economic independence.
