Yusuf Buhari Declares Interest in House of Representatives Seat, Secures APC Stakeholders’ Backing
Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, reportedly signed by him, Yusuf informed political stakeholders of his decision to vie for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter stated.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former special assistant on digital communications to Muhammadu Buhari, in a post on his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) page. Ahmad noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
Yusuf Buhari has maintained a relatively low public profile since his father left office, making this declaration his most significant political move to date.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State have thrown their weight behind his candidacy. The endorsement reportedly came during a high-level meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na Lado, said the decision to back Yusuf Buhari was unanimous, citing his perceived capacity and acceptability among party members as key factors.
Na Lado added that the endorsement forms part of broader efforts to position the party strongly ahead of the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively.
In addition, the meeting endorsed the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya Daura, for the Daura Senatorial seat, signaling early political alignments and grassroots mobilisation efforts within the party.
Political observers say the endorsements reflect increasing momentum within the APC as it begins strategic preparations for the next general election cycle.
