The former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon Philip Shaibu, celebrated Edo Queens’ historic triumph as they were confirmed as champions of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The Benin City-based team secured their first-ever title in dramatic fashion, drawing 1-1 against Bayelsa Queens in the final matchday of the Super Six playoffs.

The victory sparked jubilation across Edo State, with Hon. Philip Shaibu taking to social media to express his elation.

“Yes, We Did It!” Shaibu declared. “DREAM COME TRUE! We toiled all years, planned, invested, laboured, and made a lot of sacrifices to get to this point. Today, the DREAM HAS COME TRUE!”
