The 2026 Broadoaks British School Annual Sports Day, held on Saturday February 14, at the Aguiyi Cantonment Sports Complex has been described as the best ever, in many respects. 

This assertion, was like a consensus held by the participants who competed for honours, parents of the pupils, and staff of the schools, whose mantra is inclusivity, and whose aspiration is to be the best School in Abuja, in both sports and academics. 

While reserving praises for pupils and staff of the school, the CEO/Director of Schools Mrs. Eni Ogon reasoned that the recent exploits by the school's team at the Under 11 World School Games Olympia, in Doha, Qatar for the heightened level of competitiveness.
 
"Yes of course, the objectives of the sports day were met, maybe beyond our own modest expectations. Being an inclusive school, I was pleased with the participation of many of our children, cheered on by their parents, and our staff, who put in a lot to organize this day". 

Mrs. Ogon added that, "coming at the back, of our outing in Doha, I think that was key in propping-up of the heightened level of competitiveness seen today".

The Broadoaks team to the world school games, in Doha was led by Mrs. Ogon, and the pupils participated in football, swimming, and athletics, in both categories - Boys and Girls. More crucially, she noted that the participation of the school highlights the institution's commitment to inclusive, well-rounded development and excellence across multiple sports and disciplines.

Dr. Jill Cowie, Head of School, Broadoaks British School, was also full of praise for the competitors, and the zeal with which they flew the banner of their respective Houses. 

“Previous editions were okay, but this sports day is a marked difference; in the multiplicity of events for all categories, concluded within just 3 or four hours; and unlike many other sports days I have seen, none of the children dropped off. Even the ones that were last ensured that they finished their races, and that’s very instructive", said the Scot. 

Mrs. Mimi Whyte Femi, the President of the Parent-Teacher Forum of Broadoaks British School, also shared her thoughts about the Sports Day with reporters. 

"That we are here in our numbers was intentional, we are parents of a school that prioritizes inclusivity and children like my son Ryan, do better when their parents give them a little ouch, as "go Ryan".

Sports Day Newspaper also took time out, to speak with some of the outstanding athletes on the day; Charlye Egbo - Green House, and Oki Ogon - Red House. Both girls were also part of the team that competed in Doha, and won laurels for the FCT. 

"In Doha, I ran with kids that were my age, so it was a bit easier. But sports day has been more competitive, because I ran against some who are older than I. My dream is to combine my academics, and athletics so that in the future, I will be able to represent Nigeria", eleven-year-old Charlye enthused. 

For ten-year-old Oki, "I would say we really benefited from our trip to Doha. The exposure there was a very good experience. Sports and academics are all good for the development of kids, but I know sports can also help us to gain admission into good schools", she asserted. 

Ahmad Ida - Blue House, and Pietro Ferro - Red House were part of the outstanding participants (Boys), on the day, also shared their thoughts with reporters. 

"I was happy to beat off my friend, in the 400 metres, and I'm convinced academics and sports are essential. Sports can be beneficial, in many other ways", Pietro posited. 

For ten-year-old Ida, "my goal is to be better next year, I think our coaches did a lot in preparing us, but I am new to the team, and will look to improve a lot to be able do better than those ahead of me, performance wise, sports".

The Sports Day of Broadoaks British School had the pupils grouped into four Houses.
Ruby or Red HGreen Emerald or Green, House, Sapphire or Blue House, and Topaz or Yellow and all four are named after Precious Stones; meaning . that the kids are even more precious. 

At the end of the keenly contested, multifaceted and three tier competition, Yellow House emerged the overall winners with 
213 points; and was followed by Green House, which garnered 206 points, Blue House was third with 204 points, whilst Red House with 201 points, brought up the rare in fourth.

Situated at No.37 Yedseram Street Maitama, the School has pupils from Early Years Foundation School (Teenee Todds Day Nursery) - that's Kindergarten till Year Eleven - that's SS3. 
The Competition and races were classes into three distinct categories, and the classification was according to the Grades of the students.
