The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his appointment, describing it as unexpected.

 

Disu spoke  shortly after he was decorated by the President at the State House in Abuja.

 

“It came at a time I was not expecting it. I thank the President for finding me fit to be appointed as Inspector-General of Police,” he said.

 

The new police chief noted that the President’s remarks about his career during the ceremony were deeply moving.

 

“It shows the President took his time to monitor officers working across the country. It is a challenge for me to do what I am known for,” Disu stated.

 

He pledged to prioritise citizens’ welfare and uphold professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that effective policing depends on public cooperation.

 

“I’m going to let my men know that the citizens are the bosses. No police anywhere can succeed without the cooperation of members of the public,” he said.

 

Disu also vowed to enforce zero tolerance for corruption and impunity within the Force, promising strict adherence to human rights standards.

 

“I will ensure they follow human rights and maintain a regime of zero tolerance to corruption,” he assured.

 

Acknowledging the prevailing security challenges across the country, the Acting IGP said he would focus on boosting the morale of officers to effectively tackle insurgency and other security threats.

 

“All I need to do is channel their morale and thoughts to make things better,” he added.
