Yelena Giler, the 56-year-old mother of a victim killed in the Nova music festival massacre, died by suicide on Thursday, just two days after the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, according to Hebrew media reports.

Yelena’s son, Slava Giler, was among hundreds murdered during the Hamas assault on the outdoor music festival near the Gaza border. The devastating loss fundamentally changed his mother, according to family members.

“From that dark day, she was never the same,” wrote Slava’s brother, Alex “Sasha” Giler, in a social media post announcing his mother’s death.

The tragedy struck the Giler family again as they were still processing the second anniversary of the attack that claimed Slava’s life.

Slava Giler was laid to rest at Karmiel Cemetery two years ago following the festival attack. Yelena is scheduled to be buried beside her son today at the same cemetery, according to Israel Hayom.
