Eight-time champions Rivers Angels reached the President Federation Cup final after defeating Delta Queens 2-1 in the South South Derby on Sunday. The Jewels of Rivers proved their dominance, sealing a 2-1 win despite Delta Queens’ late penalty kick.

Rivers Angels struck early, with Blessing Okpe scoring in the 4th minute and Peace Effiong doubling the lead two minutes later. Delta Queens pulled one back with a penalty kick in the 45th minute, but Rivers Angels held on for the win.

Coach Whyte Ogbonda acknowledged the tough match, praising both teams as champions in women’s football. He reiterated his team’s focus on winning the final to compensate for missing the league title, thanking the supporters and people of Rivers State for their continuous support.

“It wasn’t an easy match, but we were able to beat them,” Ogbonda said. “After narrowly losing the league, we are determined to crush any opponent and win the trophy for the State government and the people of Rivers State.”

A thrilling final awaits Rivers Angels in Lagos, as they face Naija Ratels, who defeated Remo Stars Ladies 7-6 on penalties to book a final date on June 29.
