Winfried Schaeffer Linked To Super Eagles Vacant Coaching Job
BY SAB OSUJI
Winfied Schaeffer, a former Germany International could be the one to succeed Finidi George as new Super Eagles technical supremo, Exclusivenews.com.ng has scooped.
Schaeffer, 74, was Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Manager when the Lions caged Super Eagles in 2000 to scoop the AFCON Title inside the National Stadium, Lagos, on penalty kicks.
As AFCON winner, Schaeffer is rich with African Football mentality and could be in the best position to revive Super Eagles 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes, following disappointing winless four game run so far in the group C of the African qualifiers.
After an illustrious playing career that saw him score 46 goals in 403 Bundesliga games, winning the Bundesliga with two different clubs, Schaeffer would go on to coach a plethora of clubs outside Germany, Iran, UAE, amongst others.
Exclusivenews.com.ng understands that NFF is in the hunt for Finidi George's successor with the prime desire to engage a 'technically sound' coach to lead the three time African Champions before the next round of the qualifying games in March.
