Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has addressed misconceptions about his mental state, stating that his recent police detention gave him a chance to set the record straight.

 

Speaking in an interview on Echo Room, Portable recounted his time in custody following allegations of conspiracy and assault against Ogun State officials. He revealed that the leader of the cell voluntarily stepped down for him, but he refused, insisting that the prison was not his home.

 

The singer also described the harsh conditions detainees faced, including routine beatings for newcomers. However, he claimed he avoided such treatment by “blessing” his fellow inmates in Cell 4.

 

Portable further explained why he declined to join his cellmates in prayer, stating that their prayers could not be effective together since some had committed serious crimes, including murder.

 

According to him, “A person said we should pray; I said no, God doesn’t answer this kind of prayer. We aren’t in church. One said he had killed one person, another said he killed two, and another said three. I haven’t killed anyone, so our prayers cannot work together. Pray on your own.”
