Why El-Rufai Dumps APC, Joins Social Democratic Party

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai announced his decision in a press statement citing a growing misalignment between his values and the direction of the APC.
The former FCT Minister expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, accusing it of abandoning the progressive ideals on which it was founded. He stated that despite raising concerns privately and publicly over the past two years, there was no willingness from the leadership to address them.
“Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” El-Rufai said.
“At this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish.”
