The maiden edition of the much-anticipated Wakawaka Sports Awards takes place today, Saturday, June 7, 2025, in the Imo State capital, Owerri. The event will be held at the luxurious City Cruz Hotel, owned by Chief Kachi Atufule, CEO of Malick Football Club.

Planned and hosted by Kennedy Onwunali—sports journalist and CEO of Wakawaka Sports and Silvernews Communications—the prestigious awards ceremony is dedicated to recognising individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria and beyond.

The event will be chaired by Dr. Kachi Nwoga, Vice President of Nextzon
Group Dr. Kachi Nwoga and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s sports and business landscape. His presence adds prestige to an evening already expected to attract top names in the industry.
