Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has called up 25 players to the camp of Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, in preparation for the WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup competition scheduled to take place in Ghana from December 12 to 26, 2024.

 

Olowookere’s squad features key players from the team that recently reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where they also won the FIFA Fair Play Trophy. The Flamingos were eliminated by eventual bronze medalists, the USA, in a hard-fought 2-0 match.

The roster includes standout midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who scored four goals at the World Cup, as well as first-choice goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, and defenders Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo, and Prisca Nwachukwu. Other notable players are midfield maestro Farida Abdulwahab and forwards Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong, and Janet Akekoromowei.

The Flamingos have been placed in Group B alongside the U17 teams of Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic. Host nation Ghana will compete in Group A with Burkina Faso and Benin Republic.

All 25 players are expected to report at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, to begin preparations for the two-week tournament.
