Unveiling the Faces Behind the CLIMM Foundation

The recently concluded 4th edition of the CLIMM Southeast U-16 Track and Field Championship 2024 in Umuahia, Abia State, showcased not just the talents of young athletes but also highlighted the driving force behind the CLIMM Foundation—a grassroots initiative dedicated to revitalizing athletics in Nigeria.
As interest grows in the Foundation’s mission, Exclusive News takes a closer look at the influential figures who are shaping its vision.
Clement Chukwu is a notable alum of Eastern Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning and a Master of Science in Geographical Information Systems. Currently serving as the Planning Director for the City of Pickerington, Ohio, Chukwu is also a decorated athlete. He competed in the 1996 Olympics in the 400 meters and later earned gold medals at the 1997 Universiade and the 1998 African Championships. A key member of the Nigerian team that won silver in the 4 x 400 meters relay at the 2000 Olympics—later upgraded to gold—Chukwu’s personal bests include 20.30 seconds in the 200 meters and 44.65 seconds in the 400 meters. He was inducted into the Eastern Michigan Hall of Fame in 2011.
Lee Okoroafo, a military personnel currently serving in the British Army, began his sports journey in Tae Kwon Do before transitioning to athletics. His talent was recognized in 1989 during a schools competition in Owerri, Imo State, and he quickly became a decathlete under the mentorship of Coach Tobias Igwe. Okoroafo’s dedication and leadership played a crucial role in establishing the CLIMM Track and Field Foundation, which aims to address the decline of athletics in Nigeria’s southeastern region.
Innocent Iheme found his passion for athletics in 1989 while in secondary school in Mgbidi, Imo State. His early success in various competitions led him to national prominence, excelling in the 100 meters and long jump. Based in the UK with his family, Iheme co-manages PWD Athletics Academy with his wife, another ex-international athlete. The academy serves as a platform for nurturing the next generation of champions.
Mba Uduma was a standout long-distance runner, competing in events such as the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and mini-marathons. He first gained recognition in the Yinka Folawiyo Under 15 National Competition and later represented Nigeria while serving in the Nigeria Police Force. Uduma is a gold medalist from the Mobil Track & Field competitions and a national champion in mini marathons. Now residing in Australia, he works as a well-being professional in a school, driven by a passion to support youth and give back to the sport that shaped his life.
Michael Ukaha began his athletics career in secondary school, focusing on the 100 meters and 200 meters. His determination led him to compete in Europe, where he transitioned from an athlete to a mentor. Currently based in Germany, Ukaha supports aspiring athletes, sharing the insights gained from his own journey in the sport.
The CLIMM Foundation is committed to enhancing athletics through the organization of Track and Field Championships at various levels. By fostering collaboration with government and corporate entities, the Foundation aims to assure youth and future champions of the support available to them.
