Nigeria’s sprint sensation Favour Ofili has etched her name in athletics history by setting a new world record in the women’s 150m at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, blazing to victory in a staggering 12.53 seconds.

 

With this feat, Ofili becomes the first woman ever to run the 150m under 16 seconds, shattering the previous world record of 16.23s set by Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.

 

The groundbreaking performance lit up the city circuit event and further cemented Ofili’s rising global status in sprinting. The Adidas Atlanta City Games, known for producing fast times on its specially designed straight track, saw history made by the 21-year-old Nigerian.

 

Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s world record holder in the 100m hurdles, continued her strong form by finishing second in Heat 2 of the Women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 12.53s, advancing to the final. She was closely followed by Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent, who clocked 12.60s.

 

The heat was won by American hurdler Keni Harrison, who posted a commanding 12.44s to set the tone for the final.

 

The event marked a historic moment for Nigerian athletics as Ofili’s record-breaking sprint delivered a new benchmark for women’s sprinting worldwide.
