Exclusivenews.com.ng reports that Ugoro Football Club has confirmed its relocation to Lagos ahead of the upcoming 2026 Nationwide League One (NLO) season.

The move comes as the organisers of Nigeria’s third-tier football league, the NLO, announced a significant change in format for the upcoming campaign. The league will no longer operate on a play-off basis, but will instead be conducted on a full home-and-away system.

Anthony Atuegwu, President of Ugoro Football Club , confirmed the relocation during a statement in Lagos, saying the club has received official approval from the NLO Secretariat in Abuja.

 

“Yes, I can confirm to you now that our request to shift our base to Lagos has been granted by the NLO Secretariat, Abuja,” Atuegwu told Exclusivenews.com.ng.

 

He added 

“All paper works have been completed and we’re happy that our request has been granted by NLO Secretariat so we can now reunite with our Lagos fans and supporters.”

Prior to the move, Ugoro Football Club participated in the NLO play-offs in Awka, Anambra State, where they were registered as an Anambra-based club.

 

The relocation to Lagos marks a major shift for the club as it prepares for the 2026 season under the new home-and-away league format.

 

The NLO’s decision to scrap the play-off system means clubs will now compete in a more traditional league structure, with points earned across home and away fixtures determining their final standings.

 

This format change is expected to bring more stability and competitive fairness to the league, as teams will no longer rely on a condensed play-off series to secure promotion or survival.
