“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” na wetin the statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, talk.

 

President Tinubu make the comment on Wednesday evening for Lagos, when dem unveil the renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts (wey dem formally dey call National Arts Theatre).

 

As Tinubu take talk, the decision to cancel the parade give am better rest and change the usual “military-style” celebration.

 

“I’m more than grateful for tonight. I enjoyed the evening. Happy 65th Independence Anniversary. This has broken the monotony of military march-past, parade, and everything. By cancelling this programme, I was able to have a good sleep, have a nice breakfast, and wait for this evening. And the evening is well spent,” Tinubu tell the people wey gather for the event.

 

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee na dem fund and supervise the renovation of the cultural centre.

 

Tinubu arrive the venue around 6:24 p.m. with the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to open the cultural monument wey e don rename in July 2024 to honour Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

 

Other big names wey show face for the event include Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and of course, Professor Wole Soyinka himself wey be the host.
