President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday reassured Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces that the country will ultimately overcome insecurity, stressing that the sacrifices made by the nation’s servicemen and women will never be in vain.

 

The President gave the assurance during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

 

Addressing the gathering, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of officers and soldiers serving on the frontlines of the nation’s security challenges.

 

“I have listened to the Chief of Army Staff on my recent approvals to the Nigerian Armed Forces. My duty is to thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation, knowing fully well that many times you are without your families and that you stay away from them,” the President said.

 

He acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many personnel operate, including frequent encounters with bandits and terrorist groups threatening communities across the country.

 

“I commend your courage, sacrifice, and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” Tinubu added.

 

The President noted that the consistent efforts of the Armed Forces and other security agencies have significantly degraded the capabilities of terrorists and bandits operating in different parts of Nigeria.

 

“You have been working tirelessly to serve the country and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain, I assure you,” he said.

 

Tinubu also pledged that the Federal Government would continue to invest in modern equipment, intelligence capabilities and logistics to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the military.

 

He further expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid the ongoing economic reforms being implemented by his administration.

 

“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and that of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” the President stated.

 

The President also extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state, describing the incident as tragic and reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the region.

 

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who was represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended the President for several policy approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

 

He described the interfaith breaking of fast as a meaningful opportunity for both Christian and Muslim personnel to renew their commitment to national service and unity.

 

“I want to most sincerely thank our indefatigable President for the various approvals for the upward review of salaries of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as well as the upward review of allowances of the Brigade of Guards,” he said.

 

According to him, the approvals also include the procurement of modern military equipment and the construction of improved housing for service personnel.

 

“These laudable approvals will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency, and I assure you that they are well received by all members of the armed forces,” he added.

 

The interfaith gathering brought together military officers from different service branches, symbolizing unity and shared commitment to national peace and security during the ongoing fasting season.
