Tems has made history as the first female African artist to have a song reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. She achieved this milestone with her collaborative hit "Wait For U" featuring Future and Drake, which recently hit the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify.

The song, released in 2022, samples Tems' song "Higher" from her debut extended play "For Broken Ears" (2020). It debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Tems the first African artist to debut atop the chart.

"Wait For U" received two nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance, winning the latter. This achievement solidifies Tems' position as a global superstar artist.

Notably, Tems had previously surpassed the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify with accumulated streams on solo and featured songs in November 2023 ². She has also become the first Nigerian female artist to hit 1 billion solo streams on Spotify .
