SWAN to Honour Chigozie Chukwuleta as Veteran Sports Journalist at Diamond Award
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is set to honour Ms. Chigozie Chukwuleta with a Special Recognition and Award as a Veteran Sports Journalist, acknowledging her immense contributions and unwavering commitment to sports reportage and journalism in Nigeria.
According to an official letter endorsed by the Secretary-General of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo, and dated October 13, 2025, the honour will be bestowed on Ms. Chukwuleta during the association’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration (SWAN @60) scheduled to hold from October 29 to 31, 2025, in Abuja.
The letter, titled “LETTER OF RECOGNITION – SWAN @60 VETERANS SPORTS JOURNALIST AWARD,” conveyed the association’s appreciation for Ms. Chukwuleta’s dedication to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in the country.
It reads in part:
“Ms. Chigozie Chukwuleta, C/O SWAN Anambra State Chapter, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected for special recognition as part of activities marking the SWAN Diamond Jubilee Celebration (SWAN @60) scheduled to hold from October 29 to 31, 2025, in Abuja.
This honour is in recognition of your outstanding contributions, professionalism and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria. Over the years, your commitment, mentorship and passion for the craft have inspired generations of journalists and enriched the nation’s sporting narrative.
As a valued pioneer and pillar of our profession, this recognition is a token of appreciation for your sacrifices and legacy in promoting excellence, fairness and credibility in sports reporting.
We look forward to celebrating you at the SWAN @60 Award and Appeal Fund Ceremony on October 31, 2025, at the VIP Lounge, Package A, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. Please accept our warm congratulations and best wishes.”
Ms. Chukwuleta, a widely travelled and vastly experienced journalist, has devoted over three decades to sports journalism. Throughout her illustrious career, she has served in various leadership capacities within SWAN, including Secretary and Chairman of SWAN Anambra State Chapter, National Financial Secretary, National Treasurer, and South East Vice-President.
Her colleagues and admirers within the media community have lauded the forthcoming recognition, describing it as a fitting tribute to a woman whose dedication and passion have left an indelible mark on Nigerian sports journalism.
The SWAN @60 celebration is expected to draw top media professionals, sports administrators, and dignitaries from across the country as the association marks six decades of excellence in sports reporting.
