A viral video has surfaced online showing a tense confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a group of Nigerian soldiers who reportedly stopped him and his entourage from accessing a parcel of land in the Gaduwa District of Abuja.

 

In the footage circulating on social media, Wike and senior officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) arrived at the site but were prevented from entering by armed soldiers.

 

An aide to the minister was heard confronting the officers, saying, “This is unprofessional. You cannot be threatening a minister like this.”

 

Visibly angered, Wike challenged the soldiers for blocking access to the property, insisting that no one is above the law.

 

“You have no document,” Wike said, accusing those occupying the land of flouting due process.

“We cannot continue to act in impunity. This country cannot go along this line.

You cannot be higher than any government. You cannot carry a gun to intimidate anybody. I am not one of those they can intimidate.”

 

The minister alleged that the FCTA had no official record showing that the land was legally allocated, promising to probe the development and resist any form of intimidation.

 

He further criticized a former Chief of Staff, whom he accused of influencing the soldiers’ presence.

 

“It’s really unfortunate,” Wike added. “I don’t understand how somebody who attained that position cannot approach my office to discuss the issue, but rather uses soldiers to intimidate Nigerians. I won’t succumb to blackmail.”

 

Despite the minister’s stance, the soldiers reportedly refused to vacate the site, claiming they were acting under the directive of a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.).
