Sokoto United FC Secure 2-0 Victory Over Jigawa Golden Star FC in NNL Opener
Sokoto United FC began their 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign in style, defeating Jigawa Golden Star FC 2-0 at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto. The Caliphate Boys delivered an impressive performance, controlling the match from start to finish.
The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Yahaya Malamcy slotted home a clinical finish after an assist from James Igboyi. Just four minutes later, Christopher Ododo doubled the lead, capitalizing on a pinpoint cross from Ishaku Jibrin.
Sokoto United’s relentless pressure and fluid attacking play ensured they entered halftime with a commanding 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Sokoto United maintained their dominance, expertly managing the game’s tempo. The defense, led by Gambo Bala and Bitrus Philimon, nullified Jigawa Golden Star’s attacks, ensuring goalkeeper Usman Solomon had little to do.
The midfield trio of Godstime Oshoke, Christopher Ododo, and Umar Laduwa dictated play, while the forward line of Atiku Andrew, Yahaya Malamcy, and James Igboyi continued to threaten the visitors’ defense.
Right-back Ishaku Jibrin, whose assist for the second goal was a highlight, earned the Man of the Match award for his exceptional performance on both ends of the pitch.
