Shari’a Court Dissolves 45-Year Marriage Over Infidelity Allegations

A Shari’a Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, has dissolved a 45-year-old marriage between Ilani Alhaji and Halima Ilani following allegations of infidelity.

Presiding over the case on Monday, Judge Malam Anas Khalifa confirmed the dissolution after the defendant made a pronouncement of divorce. Efforts to reconcile the couple out of court had failed.

Halima Ilani had petitioned the court, stating her husband accused her of infidelity in front of their children and had failed to fulfill his marital duties for 20 years.

“I endured for the sake of our children, but I am now old and lack the energy for this. What hurts me the most is being accused of cheating. I am no longer interested in this marriage,” she told the court.

The judge affirmed the divorce, bringing an end to the decades-long union, citing the irreconcilable differences between the couple.
