Sarkodie Clears the Air on Afrobeats Stars Feud Rumors
Ghanaian rap star Sarkodie has dismissed rumors of a brewing rivalry with Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. This comes after his latest song, "Brag," sparked controversy with lyrics referencing his experience in the industry predating theirs.
The mention reportedly caused friction between label affiliates Dremo (formerly signed to Davido) and Lyrical Joe (signed to Sarkodie), who have been exchanging diss tracks.
Sarkodie, in a recent interview with RODE, clarified his intentions. He explained that name-dropping the stars was simply a way to highlight his longevity in the music scene.
"There's no animosity," he emphasized. "If I wanted to take aim at someone, it would be another rapper. These guys are singers, not rappers."
Sarkodie elaborated, "The song is about my journey. Who better to reference than Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sherif, Asake, and Davido? Everyone knows these artists. It's a fact that I've been around since before they came up. It's just to establish how long I've been in the game, not a diss."
He concluded by commending his fellow musicians: "They're incredible artists, truly amazing.
