Port Harcourt giants, Rivers Angels, have successfully defended their title, emerging as champions of the 2025 President Federation Cup for the second consecutive season after a dramatic 2-2 draw and 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Nasarawa Amazons at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

 

The final was a rollercoaster of emotions as Nasarawa Amazons, nicknamed the Solid Babes, surged to a 2-0 lead courtesy of a clinical brace from Olushola Shobowale. But the reigning champions responded with trademark resilience.

 

Rivers Angels clawed their way back into the game through goals from Taiwo Ajibade and Taiwo Afolabi, sending the encounter into penalties after 90 minutes of intense football.

 

Under the guidance of head coach Tosan Blankson, Rivers Angels held their nerve during the shootout, converting four penalties to Nasarawa’s two, clinching the title and igniting celebrations among their fans and players.

With this victory, Rivers Angels have now won the President Federation Cup a record 10 times, further solidifying their dominance in Nigerian women’s football. Their 2024 triumph came with a narrow 1-0 win over Naija Ratels.
