Rivers Angels head coach Tosan Blankson has expressed strong confidence in his team’s ability to win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title after their 1-1 draw with Bayelsa Queens in the South-South derby on Wednesday.

Speaking after the match in Port Harcourt, Blankson praised his players for their resilience, insisting that their style of play and unbeaten run make them strong contenders for the championship.

“I am short of words. If these girls can play football like this against all odds—when I say all odds, I know what I mean—then winning the Super Six is sure,” Blankson stated.

Both Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens remain unbeaten after five games, sitting on 11 points each.

Blankson, who guided Delta Queens to the league title last season, is now shifting focus to their next fixture against debutants Benue Queens next Wednesday.

“The team has always been flying. This is not the first time. The first half is meant for the players, the second half is meant for the coaches. The draw is as good as a win. We accept the result and prepare for our next match,” he added.

Rivers Angels, last crowned champions in 2021, will be hoping to reclaim the title under Blankson’s leadership as the season progresses.
