President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, officially opened the second Africa Military Games (AMGA 2024) on Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria.

 

The grand opening ceremony featured a colorful parade of 25 participating countries alongside host nation Nigeria, with flags proudly displayed. Vice President Shettima, joined by Service Chiefs and National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko, delivered a presidential message emphasizing unity.

 

The event dazzled spectators with calisthenics, dance dramas, and electrifying performances by Nigerian music stars Olamide, Yemi Alade, D’banj, and Timi Dakolo.

 

Athletes from across Africa will compete in 19 sports over the 10-day event, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and the Army Arena in Keffi, where the shooting events are scheduled.

 

On the first day, Nigeria’s Armed Forces teams secured victories over Ghana in handball, with the women’s team winning 35-18 and the men’s team triumphing 31-23.

 

The Africa Military Games, returning after a 21-year hiatus since the inaugural event in Kenya in 2002, will conclude on November 30.
