Reigning NPFL champions, Rangers International F.C., secured a hard-fought goalless draw against Katsina United in a Matchday 17 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, on Sunday, December 15, 2024. The result extended Rangers’ unbeaten streak to ten matches in the 2024/2025 season.

Led by Chief Coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu, Rangers fielded a largely unchanged squad, with Godwin Obaje and Frank Uwumiro spearheading the attack and Lucky Abdullahi guarding the goal.

The first half saw balanced play, with both teams battling for control in midfield. Rangers’ quartet of Hillary Ekawu, Chinemerem Ugwueze, Ejike Ugochukwu, and Kenechukwu Agu held their own against Katsina’s midfield led by Azeez Falolu and Emmanuel Okoro.

The best chance of the half fell to Frank Uwumiro, who danced past Katsina defenders only to be brought down by the goalkeeper on the edge of the box in the 26th minute, much to the relief of the home crowd.

Katsina United came out stronger in the second half, with Moses Effiong and Destiny Ashadi creating chances. However, the Rangers’ defense, anchored by Austin Opara and Ikenna Stephen, remained resolute.

Rangers’ Godwin Obaje and substitute Kingsley Maduforo came close to scoring on two occasions, only to be denied by Katsina goalkeeper Kolimba’s stunning saves. At the other end, Lucky Abdullahi delivered crucial stops to preserve the clean sheet.

Speaking after the game, Coach Ekenedilichukwu praised his players’ effort: “It was a tough match that could have gone either way. We came here for a win but are satisfied with the point. Our focus now shifts to our next game against 3SC. I urge our fans to keep supporting us—we will make them proud this season.”

With the draw, Rangers hold on to 3rd place in the NPFL standings, amassing 28 points from 17 matches.
