The iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, popularly known as Onikan Stadium, was full of abuzz this week as Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens held their open trials from December 3 to 4, 2024.

The trials was aimed at identifying talented female footballers to strengthen the club under its new management. The club’s manager, Muftau Eletu, emphasized that the event which was open to female players from both within and outside Lagos State.

“We have secured a good venue for our trials that will allow the players to express themselves. It’s happened at Onikan Stadium so the coaching crew selected the best talents,” said Muftau, also known as Junior.

The trials accommodated both individual players and teams. While participants from outside the state were offered accommodation during the trials. 

“It was an open trials  for individuals, clubs, and female footballers from all over. We assisted players from outside Lagos with accommodation during this period,” he added.

The trials came as part of the club’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen ahead of the upcoming season. Muftau assured fans that the team has undergone significant restructuring and promised exciting developments, including the unveiling of a new head coach and backroom staff.

“Our fans are aware of recent challenges, but we’ve restructured and will soon announce our new coaching team. Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens will come back stronger and participate in high-profile tournaments next year,” he said.

The trials at Onikan Stadium mark the beginning of a promising chapter for the club as it seeks to return to the spotlight in Nigerian women’s football.
