In a major show of support for the performance of Abakaliki FC in the just concluded President Federation cup  where the team were the runners' up, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced a generous financial package and a strategic plan to revive Abakaliki FC, including a firm commitment to return the club to the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.

At a special event held in Abakaliki , the Governor rewarded players and coaches of Abakaliki FC with ₦1 million each, recognizing their dedication and resilience despite the team’s recent challenges.

The Governor also pledged ₦4 million to the club’s Supporters Club, lauding them for their unwavering loyalty through tough times. In a further gesture, non-technical staff were awarded ₦500,000 each, while sports journalists under SWAN Ebonyi received ₦1 million for their contributions to promoting football in the state.

In addressing concerns about welfare, Governor Nwifuru assured that salaries for all old players would be paid through November 2025, providing financial relief and reaffirming the administration’s commitment to their well-being.

Most notably, the Governor declared that Abakaliki FC would return to the NNL in the upcoming season, signaling a fresh start and renewed hope for the club and its fans.

“This administration is passionate about youth empowerment and sports development. Abakaliki FC represents not just football, but the spirit of Ebonyi pride,” Governor Nwifuru said. “We are committed to seeing this team back where it belongs—competing at the national level.”

The announcement has sparked celebration across the state, with many hailing the Governor’s initiative as a turning point for sports in Ebonyi.
