Plumptre Marks Scoring Comeback for Al-Ittihad After Injury Layoff
Nigeria defender Ashleigh Plumptre made a triumphant return to the pitch, scoring during Al-Ittihad’s impressive 13-1 victory over Jeddah in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
This was Plumptre’s second match since her seven-month injury hiatus, and her impact was substantial. In addition to netting a goal, she provided three assists throughout the game.
The scoring was led by Seba Tawfiq with two goals, while Lili Iskandar, Leticia Nunes, and Lana Abdulrazak each contributed three goals to the rout. Plumptre scored the fifth goal, and Raneem Al-Sharif and Fatimah Mansour also added to the tally. Jeddah’s lone consolation came from Abla Bensenouci in the 65th minute.
Plumptre had returned to action the previous weekend in a league match and is expected to join Justine Madugu’s squad for their upcoming game against Algeria in Lagos.
