Ben Akwuegbu, a former Nigeria international, has charged Plateau United to ensure that they prepared well to ensure that they won the 2025/2026 NPFL title, stressing that it was the least they can do for Governor Caleb Manasea Mutfwang, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Akwuegbu is the Consultant to His Excellency, Gov Caleb Manasea Mutfwan, on Plateau United.

Reflecting on Plateau United's performance in the concluded 2024/2025 campaign, 'Austria Bomber', as former Mbaise Lions FC and now Ben Akwuegbu FC Jos sole financier is fondly called, Akwuegbu said Plateau under the leadership Hosea Mutla did well in the concluded season.

He posited that the Coach Mbwas Mangut side should rebuild strongly in order to win the title for the governor, who he pointed out, has done so well for the club and sports generally in the state.

"Plateau United deserves to be in the top two or three of the Nigeria Premier Football League", starts Akwuegbu when Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

"They should focus on winning the league next season. Plateau United can do it. They are capable of doing it and have all it takes to do it.

"This winning the league title) should be the focus now that the team is starting to rebuild. Just get good strikers, then five or six quality players and the team will be a cracker.

"Let's do it for the governor. He's done so well for the club and sports I General for the state".

Akwuegbu pointed out that poor defending was the club's major problem in the concluded season, stressing that they conceded late goals in several games which affected them in the season.

"We conceded cheap goals, in many cases late goals that was not good enough.

"I can count about three, four or five games we're leading and had to conced goals very late and eventually lost those matches", Akwuegbu emphasised.
