David Oyedepo Recalls Alleged 1987 Marijuana Plot in Kaduna, Credits Divine Protection
David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has recounted a dramatic incident from 1987 in Kaduna, where he alleged that unknown individuals planted marijuana in his vehicle in an attempt to frame him. The story, shared during a recent sermon, gained widespread attention after a video of the sermon went viral on Tuesday.
Oyedepo said the plot was uncovered thanks to the “divinely orchestrated” actions of his former driver, Clifford. According to the cleric, Clifford insisted on washing the car after returning from Katsina, a decision that led to the discovery of the suspicious substance.
“Some fellows planted marijuana in my car in those days, 1987, in Kaduna, at the mechanical shop. I’ve never seen it in my life, so I wouldn’t know,” Oyedepo said.
He explained that Clifford, while cleaning the car, removed a seat and found a freshly wrapped package. Shocked, Clifford rushed to the cleric in fear.
Clifford reportedly said, “‘That’s one of the things my wife plants behind the house.’ He said, ‘This is wee-wee.’ I said, ‘What is wee-wee?’” Oyedepo added that he had no prior exposure to hard drugs.
The gravity of the situation, Oyedepo said, became clear later that evening when policemen flagged down his car for inspection. “They went to the exact spot where that thing was kept. I said, ‘Shame on you.’ He said, ‘Sorry, sir,’” he recounted, suggesting the officers might have expected the substance to be present.
Reflecting on the experience, Oyedepo credited divine protection for keeping him safe. “No one can keep himself. We are kept by the power of God. There are many poor people in prison today who didn’t do anything. They just found themselves there by the scheming of the wicked,” he said, praying that his listeners would avoid similar traps.
Oyedepo also recounted his early encounter with Christianity as a young boy in 1969, recalling the influence of a dedicated teacher whose prayers led him to embrace the faith. “I’m so glad that no aspect of my life has been wasted. I’m so glad that I found Him early, February 19, 1969. My wonderful woman teacher… I saw love in her eyes, so it was easy for me to follow her God. She prayed for me that simple prayer, and that changed my life forever,” he said.
