Okwenu All Stars Emerge Champions As KM Lubricants Tournament Ends In Style
Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Nnewi was the centre of attraction on Sunday as KM Lubricants Anambra All Stars Tournament came to a fitting end with Okwenu All Stars lifting the trophy as well as taking home the N1m Star Prize.
The Okwenu All Stars saw off Juventus FC in a keenly contested grand finale, with Chidebere's late strike crowning Okwenu All Stars as Champions of the maiden edition of KM Lubricants All Stars Competition.
Juventus FC had the most chance to win the game, no thanks to their makeshift front man who had many chances missed .
In the third place match decided earlier in the day, Torwaleen FC defeated fans favourites SSK 5-4 on penalties and console themselves with a cash prize of N300, 000.
Overall, a total of N2m was won as cash prizes with the champions, Okwenu All Stars receiving N1,000,000, runners-up Juventus FC #500,000, third placed team, Torwaleen FC N300,000 and 4th placed team SSK, N200,000.
All the teams that qualified for the quarter finals were given #100,000 each.
Tournament sponsor, Ichie Kenneth Mmaduakor, the CEO of KM Lubricants expressed satisfaction with the huge success of the maiden edition of the tournament and promised to sponsor a better edition next year.
"I thank God for a successful tournament, it wasn't easy but it was a success. I appreciate the organisers and the teams that participated; it is not about the trophy, it is about keeping old men like us healthy through football.
"Teams from different parts of Anambra State came in to play and, of course, the tournament produced a champion.
"We have learnt different lessons from few mistakes and we look forward to see a better edition next year".
