Obuh Goes Philosophical After Abia Warriors Draw At Bayelsa United
BY SAB OSUJI
Abia Warriors came within a touching distance to fetching their first away win of the season at Bayelsa United but a momentary loss of concentration ensured they made do with a point following a 2-2 regulation scoreline in the NPFL Match Day 11 four-goal feisty thriller, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The Umuahia Warriors went 2-0 up in the second period before their hosts staged a late rally to draw level, ensuring that both teams shared the spoils at 2-2.
Interestingly, it was Abia Warriors first point on the road in the current 2023/2024 domestic top flight campaign.
Although many felt the Warriors fought hard and should have deservedly earned all three points at stake, some diehard followers of the club feel the draw was a 'fair' result since it was their first draw away from home this term.
But John Obuh, Executive Chairman of the club, opts for a philosophical dimension of the outcome of the epic thriller.
"For one who has not tasted win or draw at away before, this (2-2 draw at Bayelsa Utd) is worth being happy about", Obuh, a former Nigeria U17s, U20s, Coach and Super Eagles Assistant Coach posited.
"We believe this will be a starting point. Next up could be outright win on the road. When they find themselves in similar position they would be able to deal with it.
"Now, they know they can do it and it's just one at a time", Obuh said with an element spiritual believe and confidence.
Last season, Abia Warriors finished the season on 4th position now they have their heads tightly screwed unto their necks for a top three finish this term, a performance that would potentially cement their CAF Confederatation Cup campaign berth berth in 2024.
