NWFL :Ekiti Queens Escapes Relegation
Ekiti Queens FC emerged from a nerve-shredding afternoon with their NWFL-Premiership status intact thanks to a 2-0 victory over Rivers Angels at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti.
Two goals in each half by Olaleye Odunayo in the 17th minute and Ismail Zainab in the 86th minute ensured that the debutants kept their place in Nigerian women's top-flight football.
Recall that Ekiti Queens suffered a 2-0 loss to the Jewels of Rivers in the reverse fixture in Port Harcourt.
Before the last round of matches in the NWFL regular season, Ekiti Queens were faced with an uphill battle to escape the drop alongside their neighbours, Sunshine Queens.
However, Sunshine Queens were relegated after losing 2-1 against Remo Stars Ladies away from home in a dramatic season finale.
With the result, Ekiti Queens, who made history by becoming the first women’s football team from Ekiti State to compete in the top tier after just a single season in the NWFL’s second tier will represent the state next season
