NWFL Championship : NFF Suspends Two Referees
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended two match officials, Referee Amamong Idongesit Anthony and Assistant Referee Blessing Nwika, due to their poor officiating during the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship match between Imo Striker Queens and Pelican Stars on September 1, 2024. The NFF deemed their actions as bringing disrepute to the integrity of refereeing, the NWFL, and the sport, and has withdrawn them from further participation in the NWFL Championship . They have also been suspended from all refereeing activities until further notice and are required to vacate the refereeing camp immediately.
Speaking to Exclusivenews.com.ng on this, the Chairman of the NWFL Board, Nkechi Obi said the action is a warning to all the referees that would want to be funny in the championship. Quoting her words, she said "We can't tolerate any action by anybody to bring the game to disrepute. This is a warning signal to those who feels that they can do anything and get away with it. We can't allow it in our tournament".
