The Nigeria Customs Women’s Basketball team delivered a dominant performance against Liberia’s Commissioners in their final group game of the FIBA Zone 3 Africa Women’s Basketball League, securing a commanding 77-18 victory at the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville, Monrovia.
The Customs team, needing a win to top Group B after two hard-fought victories and a secured semi-final slot, came out strong from the start, dismantling the Liberian side’s strategy with relentless energy and precision.
The Border Ladies took control in every quarter, issuing a clear statement to Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) Basketball Club, who finished second in Group A and will face Customs in the semi-final.
Reflecting on the game, Head Coach Abdulrahman Mohammed shared his satisfaction: “There’s a certain feeling when everything clicks in a game. Winning shows that our plans were executed well.”
Looking ahead to the semi-final against Nigeria’s reigning champions, MFM Basketball Team, Coach Abdulrahman described it as an opportunity for redemption following their previous defeat in Lagos. “Our main goal is to qualify for the African Women’s Basketball League, where we finished 5th last year. We’re confident in our team and ready to make up for that loss in Lagos.”
The semi-finals are set for Saturday, November 9, 2024, with Friends Basketball Association of Ivory Coast taking on Benin Republic’s Energie Basketball, while defending Zone 3 champions Nigeria Customs face MFM in an intense Nigeria Derby.
